I was in a lunch meeting with my new department boss today. Thank god he has some common sense. I got enough stunads in my life, I don't need anymore hassle than I already got. He’s a sports fan, which is cool, cuz my current boss could care less and so we don't have much to talk about "socially". Perhaps he feels inferior and unwilling to engage in frivolous/humorous conversation because he doesn’t have a college degree. I think it is because he doesn’t like me, which is hard for me to understand. We’ve had differences of opinion in the past. I have tried to bridge the gap on a number of occasions but he seems unwilling. Too bad, his loss.
So, my new boss is a baseball fan, more specifically an Atlanta braves fan. I am, however, a dyed-in-the-wool NEW YORK YANKEES fan, practically since birth. I don't remember a time where I wasn't. We talked baseball for a good bit over lunch, with some good-natured ribbing. His part mostly was anti-Yankees comments, mine, anti-Steinbrenner ones. I am hopeful that we can develop a good working relationship over the next couple of weeks.
On the deal here with Iraq...my cousin josh shipped this past Wednesday. I have mixed feeling about this. I am proud of him. He chose to join, a patriotic act that I do not think I could match. And I know he's prolly scared to death, but he is doing such a great thing for our country the world as a whole. Though some countries…FRANCE, I'm looking in your direction...don't freakin’ appreciate the way our military goes out if it's way consistently to save their bacon time in and out. They say "oh, please help us with X" or "can you give us money/food/shelter cuz X happened to us". Man that pisses me off. And these countries have the unmitigated gall to break our balls, cuz we want to get rid of an insane dictator.... yeah.... note to self, next time when France calls to ask a favor, let the UN take care of it and leave us out. So, to get back to my point, my cousin has been dispatched, and I am afraid for him and his mom and dad. I am sure they are concerned. Many parents’ children are going into harms way. I don't have children, so I cannot venture a guess on how that feels, but it can’t be the greatest feeling in the world for sure. To wrap this up... Josh, I am praying for ya, stand tall, and come home soon.

it's been a while ....so i was away this past weekend for a retreat in trout run, pa. in general, weekend retreats seem to sap more of your energy and you come home more tired than when your left ( but that is generally because you stay up too late flappin your gums with some psuedo-friends/aquaintences). however i found time to unwind...not fully. but i loosened my screws a twist or two. the week i had last week alone... i am suprised that the screws even budged. the whole concept of the weekend and thus the name was to "Chill". Yes it was cold. but the fire was very warm. I think i spent at least 3-4 hours in front of the fire with a good book. If you like Tom Clancy... Red Rabbit (so far) is good. It's a step back in time in the Jack Ryan series. It would take place after Patriot Games and before Hunt for Red October... to learn more about the "ryanverse" you can surf to (cuz i have not figured out the link thing yet) : www.clancyfaq.com/ryanvers.htm
So i was able to relax and enjoy the company of some pretty cool peeps. I met my roomate Bill's jersey girl Anne-Marie. I have been busting his balls about seeing/dating a girl from New Jersey. she is really nice, and easy to talk to (what a plus...you wouln't have to carry the conversation) and tall. amazon-esqe but with scandanavian features. and she didn't have that aggrivating jersey girl hair/attitude/accent like a couple of people that were also at the retreat. What is the deal with the accent, it's a poorman's/woman's NYC accent but with layers of whiny-ness that is akin to fingernails scraping across a chalkboard (not to be confused with jewish mom accent, what's not to like) anyway a great weekend to forget about work and to just be. now that the work week is rolling along we'll see what it brings. prolly too much stress and not enough sleep.
